- Why Stony Plain
- Commercial & Industrial
Thinking of moving to Stony Plain? Look no further! We have all the information you need to seal the deal so you can start living your Unbridled Possibilities.
Why Stony? Easy. Here you get the small town touch with the convenience of the big city. No gimmicks, just honest-to-goodness good people, great amenities, and high livability. And don’t just take our word for it! Maclean’s ranked Stony Plain as a top 10 place to live in Alberta this year.
If staying active is important to you, we have you covered. With over 42 kilometers of trails, you can get around town however you like – jogging, biking, blading, you name it! We also have a CGPA 18 hole golf course which is transformed into cross-country trails in the off season. If organized sports are more your thing, here you’ll find a full service arena, a curling rink, tennis courts, an outdoor swimming pool, ball diamonds, and sport fields throughout town. And don’t fret if you’re into BMX or skateboarding, we have parks for each! The Town website has more information on most of our recreational facilities.
While being physically active is important, it’s also important to flex your brain. We take arts and culture very seriously in Stony Plain as we host dozens of events and festivals each year. Our biggest festival of the year is Farmer’s Days, a three day celebration of our agricultural roots that takes place the first weekend of June. The third Thursday of each November is our kickoff to the Holiday Season with the Christmas Light Up, where we flick the switch to bring some holiday joy to Downtown. Throughout the year we also have a weekly farmers market, which is hosted in the community centre just off of our Main Street. Public art and murals can be found all over the Town, commemorating where we’ve been and signalling where we’re headed. We also host Summer Sessions, a series of outdoor concerts during the summer months, featuring over a dozen Canadian musical acts each year. Finally, if you’re keen to explore a bit more of our history, both the Pioneer Museum & the Multicultural Heritage Centre will tickle your fancy!
Bringing your family along for the ride? You probably want to know a bit more about schools then. Stony Plain is the proud home to 6 schools within Parkland School Division. We have one K-6 school, four K-9 schools, one all ages school, and one high school. To see the catchment areas for each school, head on over to Parkland School Division’s page.
When you’re looking for a home in Stony Plain, you’ll also be pleased to know that your dollar will go further here! On average, homes in Stony Plain are roughly $30,000 less than in the City, and that’s not even factoring in some of the other suburbs like Spruce Grove, Fort Saskatchewan, or St. Albert, where we’re even more competitively priced!
But wait, now you’re thinking about the commute compared to other areas of the Metro region, aren’t you? While it may look daunting, thanks to direct highway access, you can actually be in Downtown Edmonton quicker from Stony Plain than some areas of the City itself! On an average day, you’re looking at around 40 minutes to get from Stony Plain to Downtown Edmonton. And if you’re headed to the airport for business (or pleasure!), we benefit from access that doesn’t have to involve Highway 2, so you can forget about the traffic jams and stressing about missing your flight!
