This is a family run business that has been around for decades serving the Stony Plain and area community. They have modernized their business by expanding into a new location this past year creating a showroom to showcase their products. With the expansion of locating, new jobs were also created. This business is an advocate for shopping locally and believes in investing and supporting the Town and the residents within it. They embody what we believe the Ambassador of Action award represents and as residents of Stony Plain, we are glad a business like this is around.
Divine Escape Hair and Body Studio, 110 Genesis Drive

Over $500,000 has been invested into the renovations and development of this new boutique salon within the Town. The salon created 13 new positions within the community hiring hair stylists, estheticians, registered massage therapists, receptionists, and cleaning staff. This is the first location within Stony Plain to have hair design, makeup, registered massage, body treatments, facials, chemical peels, waxing, tinting, gel nails, reflexology, and microblading. Almost all of the products used and retailed in the salon are new to Stony Plain, therefore Divine Escape is the exclusive suppliers of Dermalogica and Image Skin Care.
Meridian Veterinary Clinic, 113 4704 49 Ave

This Clinic expanded their current business in Spruce Grove by adding a second location in Stony Plain, which opened in April of 2016. The owners completely revamped the space that was formally known as “the cooperators” in the grainery building. Not only did they revamp, but they used local companies to facilitate the construction of the new clinic. This clinic has a full compliment of staff, including veterinarians, vet technicians, and office staff. In the past year they have created, 4 full-time jobs in Stony Plain. The clinic has made significant investments into upgrading the veterinary equipment that is used and needed to provide the highest quality of veterinary care.
Lobay Dental Group, Unit 220 4201 28 Street

This dental office has seen significant growth in the past 11 years, growing from a team of 4 – to a team of 22 employees. Outgrowing the previous location, the business invested over 2 million dollars into a brand new facility, doubling the office space and increasing staff by another 7 members. In the last 2 years the treatment operatories have expanded to include sedation options for patients. This business also holds an annual Free Dental Day, which provides dental services to local low income residents in need.
The Barn Owl, 4912 52 Avenue

The Barn Owl is continually introducing new local vendor product lines including jewelry, coat racks, live edge tables, candles, and home decor items. The woodworking division has increased from 3 classes a week to now offer 6 classes a week! This business has expanded by adding a new part time position to the retail side and 3 new part time positions to the workshop side of the business, totaling 13 part time staff. The Barn Owl has created unique shopping opportunities with partnering with another Stony Plain vendor to provide a “pop up” sale as well as organizing the Artisan Fair, and CultureFWD at the Barn Owl location. This business has invested in the building by painting the exterior of the store, adding a mural on the exterior of the store, and adding a library for the community to use.
Tirecraft, 67 Boulder Boulevard

This business has been serving the Stony Plain community since 2005 providing residents with automotive repairs and retail tire sales. In July of 2014 Tirecraft reopened under a new partnership with Tirecraft Western Canada. Since the reopening; this business has grown, diversified and expanded clientele. Tirecraft has grown from employing 9 people in 2005 to now employing 36 employees. In 2015, this business opened a second location in Spruce Grove offering retail sales. Giving back to the community is a high priority for Tirecraft, since 2005 the business has estimated over $200,000 have been donated within the community.
Sugar Leaf Bakery Cafe Supply, 5002 50 Street

This business has recently undergone an expansion and relocation, with the new location opening in the beginning of 2017. This business is a great space for lunch with homemade products, the target demographic is kids, teens, adults, and the elderly. This business has expanded the products they serve by adding all day breakfast items onto the menu, ice cream, and iced beverages. This business also has live music and entertainment providing an uplifting atmosphere in the downtown core of Stony Plain. Previously this business has been awarded New Business of the Year, and just celebrated their 5 year anniversary within the community.
Miss Maddi’s Dance Company, Unit 102 3802 49 Avenue

This business has moved from Rosenthal Hall directly into the Town of Stony Plain. The new business location encompasses a large studio space, dressing rooms, and rooms for voice/ guitar lessons. This dance studio is a dynamic business that takes the art of dance out into the community as well representing Stony Plain at the Festival of Trees and the Town’s Farmers Day Parade. This business also gives back to the community by donating profits from the winter and spring dance show to local non-profit organizations.
Stony Plain Dental Centre, Unit 109 3919 49 Avenue

This dental clinic has been within the Stony Plain community since 1999. In 2012 the new owners purchased the clinic, and started with a new vision: become a patient-centric office, that stewards in the community. Since then the clinic went from 8 to 26 staff (19 being from Stony Plain/Spruce Grove) and invested over $200,000 in patient care education on the staff. The clinic more than tripled in size, investing over $3,000,000 in facility and tenant improvements. This clinic believes in giving back to the community by partnering with different organizations in the tri-area to provide free dental work and by supporting local adult and child sports teams to alleviate costs to the athletes.
Rescue Flats, Home Based Business

This home based business is located in Stony Plain, designing custom wedding shoes. They have manufactures in Vancouver and Pennsylvania and ship these unique wedding shoes worldwide! Recently the business has been featured in US Weekly, and was on Toronto Breakfast Television. Each year Rescue Flats designs and releases new world-class enhancements to the products sold. All product enhancements are designed and crafted in Stony Plain, shipping all over the world.
