Celebrating Small in a Big Way

Small Business Week 2016

Small business owners are often the unsung heroes of our economy. But the Stony Plain will be celebrating and encouraging our local entrepreneurs during the upcoming Small Business Week October 16th to the 22nd.

The majority of businesses in Alberta are small; in fact they account for 95% of all business activity in the province and are a driving force of the economy accounting for almost 30% of the GDP.

Stony Plain Mayor William Choy says, “As a small businesses owner along with being Mayor, I fully understand and appreciate our small businesses. During these challenging economic times entrepreneurs must be collaborative and creative to in order to achieve growth and success.”

Stony Plain and District Chamber of Commerce President, Laverne Pankratz says, “The vibrancy of our small businesses and their contribution to the unique character of our community is often overlooked or taken for granted. Small Business Week is a great opportunity to celebrate the success of these businesses and their employees as well as networking with other like minded entrepreneurs. By recognizing each other’s strengths and working together we can create success for all.”

This year the Town has partnered up once again with Stony Plain and District Chamber of Commerce, Rotary Club of Stony Plain, Community Futures Capital Region and Parkland County to host a week full of opportunities. We will be featuring three key events, offering a variety of timely and engaging gatherings for local entrepreneurs to come together and explore small business prosperity.
